Using Sports to fight HIV/AIDS in Africa Regional and international sports are social institutions in Africa that cut across religion, gender, ethnic groups, age and status, and can truly unite people around a common cause. The recent Confederation of Africa Cup of Nations in Ghana and the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa are magnets that could be exploited across African countries to engage programs and plans that could be a major step towards the eradication of HIV and AIDS, especially among high risk offenders.
