The Carbon Markets & Investors Association (CMIA)
CMIA ensures the strong representation of the progressive business voice in climate change policy formulation. We are an expert and objective resource for policy makers who want to know what policies business needs to invest in climate change mitigation and adaptation. We work with various stakeholder groups to ensure the environmental integrity, robustness and permanence of the carbon markets. We participate in international negotiations and national level policy debates to ensure that policies support private sector investment in climate change mitigation and adaptation. We liaise with media outlets from international broadsheets to trade publications in promoting efficient market solutions to climate change, dispelling myths about the carbon markets. Through our Working Groups, we facilitate agreement among industry players around policy positions on key issues, leveraging the numbers and expertise of our membership toward effectively influencing policy to reflect these positions. CMIA increases the profile and strengthens the contacts of its members within the carbon space and with select external stakeholder groups.

The over-arching objectives of the Partnership are to: Stimulate the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions through a significant increase in the uptake of renewables and energy efficiency. Contribute to global sustainable development, bringing economic benefits to nations that use energy in a more efficient way and increasing the share of indigenous renewable resources in their energy mix. Improve access to reliable and sustainable energy for the poor, contributing to wealth creation and the MDGs.
